New Sister Superior at the Community of St. John Baptist

Updated: May 9, 2020

Sister Monica Clare, CSJB signs the roll book of Superiors as Bishop Allen K. Shin looks on.

The Sisters of the Community of St. John Baptist in Mendham, NJ elected Sister Monica Clare as their new Sister Superior on Dec. 4. She was installed as Superior by the Rt. Reverend Allen K. Shin, Bishop Suffragan of New York, on Dec. 11.

Sister Monica has been a member of CSJB since 2012. She and Sister Laura Katharine lived and worked at the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin from 2015 to 2018, then they were called back to the Mother House in Mendham to serve in new positions.

Upon being elected, Sister Monica said: " I cannot begin to express what an honor and a privilege it is to serve this Community and walk with my Sisters into the future.

My greatest hope is to be a faithful steward of the dream our Mother Foundress Harriet Monsell began when she dedicated her life to God on Nov. 30, 1852, in Windsor, England.

Gracious God, please use me and this Community to keep Mother Harriet’s dream alive and to meet the needs of the day in our wounded world."

The Community gives thanks to the previous Sister Superior, Sister Eleanor Francis, who has faithfully led the Community for the past ten years and will now be focusing on her ministry of interfaith work, her ministry as a priest, and her ministry to increase inclusion of Associates and Oblates into the work of the Community.

Our prayers are with CSJB as they transition to their new leadership.
